If there is any hope in the body of Christ today, it exists solely in the Lord.
In Psalm 40, the psalmist David writes, “I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry. (NASB 1995).
This is wonderful news! We who are here on earth are not serving a God who is reluctant to hear us. He is not one who shuts His servants out. Despite what our emotions might tell us when we are going through the difficult seasons, He does not ignore or cast aside His servants.
Though He may remain silent through our afflictions, the scriptures clearly teach us that He is our ever present help in times of need (Psalm 46).
We can gather a very important fact about God (often misunderstood by man):
God’s silence does NOT mean He is absent.
It means He is LISTENING.
Often times, to many of us, this does not make sense.
We cannot fathom how a God who remains quiet is actually helping us through. If we assume His silence equates to His absence, perhaps we have a worldly misunderstanding with God which needs to be broken down and repaired.
Have you ever tried to talk with someone who is talking back to you before you can finish your sentence?
I think we can all agree that it can pretty frustrating.
How about someone who gets so excited about their own ideas and agendas that they cannot even hear your ideas, hopes or dreams for the group to ponder?
His ways are not like our ways. His thoughts are not like our thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9).
His silence is not an indicator of His absence.
His silence is actually an indicator of His open ear.
He is listening. He is present with you.
He is guiding you, standing alongside you, interacting with your prayers and responding to your humility and obedience every step of the way.
As David continues in the 40th Psalm, he also writes, “He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, and He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.” He continues, “He put a NEW SONG in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear and will trust in the LORD.”
As we press on towards the goal that is Christ. His kingdom, His culture, His promise… let us be reminded that He has always been our ever present help in times of need.
He has always been faithful to us.
By His silence He has proven that his ears are open and His plan is in place.
By His silence He reminds us that He has already spoken.
He challenges us to rest upon His promise and to cling to that which He has already given.
The measure which we have been given in our day and age is unworthy to be compared with the proportions which were given in the days of the earliest prophets. We have been given the Son of God as His messenger, prophet and priest.
He understands everything we are going through and desires to lead us into His greener pastures.
There should be no shifting in our day.
We have been brought out of the miry clay, where our feet were sucked into the slippery slog of life. But now, because of God’s Word becoming flesh and literally dwelling among us, we have been placed in a new footing by God Himself.
We now stand upon the solid rock that is our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.
Because of this, we know that God’s silence is an illusion.
The lack of soundwaves to our ears cannot limit the resounding love song of God directed at our hearts. His presence is felt in the hard times. His voice is heard inaudibly, through the meditation of our hearts upon what He has already clearly stated and promised.
This promise which resides in our hearts as a constant heavenly ping, reveals God’s truth that we are all living in a NEW DAY!
In light of this, let us be challenged by the third verse of Isaiah 40 which clearly tells us we have been given a NEW SONG.
A new song for a new day. Hmmm… seems appropriate!
Let our resounding voices proclaim His new day with His new song.
Which one? The one He placed in our mouths.
The one which proclaims how He hears us and how He saves us from the pit of death.
Not the one we hear with our ears or quantify with a chord chart, but the life song of the redeemed, which proclaims the coming of His promise now and forevermore.
In closing, and to keep this particular blog short and sweet, I would like to call your attention to Psalm 40:4, which reads, “How blessed is the man who has made the LORD His trust, and has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.”
Let Psalm 40:1-4 be an ever present reminder to us as the body of Christ, not to lean on the fast fading systems of this world, but rather to lean on Christ who saves. Let us walk in the truth with God, hearing and trusting His Word to guide us through. Let us cling to the rock that is Jesus Christ and let us found our lives upon it, so that we will not shift, crash, or lose heart in these last days. Let our mouths be filled with the NEW SONG for this NEW DAY!
God bless you as you are reminded that our hope is in the LORD, and nothing else.
Blessings and peace in Christ,
Pastor Jeff Beauvais
